Rockpooling is one of those wonderfully simple holiday activities that can keep children occupied for far longer than expected.
Two of our favourite rockpooling beaches in South Devon are Hope Cove and South Milton Sands.
Rockpooling At Hope Cove
As the tide retreats around Hope Cove, explore the exposed rocky areas and see what you can spot hiding in the pools.
It's particularly easy if you're staying at 1 Alberni Cottage, with the beach around a minute away.
South Milton Sands
South Milton Sands is another favourite family beach.
Parking is close to the beach and there are toilets and food and drink nearby, which makes a day here with children relatively easy. Go early during the school holidays because the lanes and parking become much busier.
Time your rockpooling around low tide and bring shoes with a decent grip for slippery rocks.
Look rather than collect wherever possible, return creatures to where you found them and keep an eye on the incoming tide.
When everyone has finished exploring, an ice cream nearby is a simple way to end the beach trip.
