Staying In Salcombe With Parking: Why It Matters

Anyone who knows Salcombe will understand why accommodation with parking comes at a premium.

Not every property has its own space and finding public parking can be challenging, particularly during the busy summer months. Having somewhere private to leave the car removes one of the complications of arriving in town with luggage, shopping, children or dogs.

But the real advantage is having a parking space and not needing to use the car once you have arrived.

Park Up and Walk

Kennford has one private off-road parking space and is approximately five minutes from the centre of Salcombe on a genuinely flat walk.

Once the car is parked, the town's shops, waterfront and places to eat and drink can all be reached on foot. Different members of the group can come and go without every outing needing to be organised around the car.

For a family or group holiday, that freedom can make a real difference.

Bringing a Second Car?

Kennford sleeps up to eight guests, so it is quite possible that a group will arrive in two cars. The house has one private parking space only, so the second vehicle needs a little planning.

Shadycombe is the nearest public car park, around two minutes from Kennford. It is convenient for unloading or shorter visits, but during the high season it has a maximum stay of three hours. Overnight parking is available under a separate tariff from 6pm until 8am, but that does not solve the daytime long-stay problem.

If the second car is unlikely to be used very much during the holiday, our practical suggestion is to leave it at the long-stay car park at Bonfire Hill. One person can park there and the driver of the vehicle staying at Kennford can collect them. Bonfire Hill permits stays of up to seven days, making it a much more practical option for an additional car.

Parking arrangements, charges and seasonal restrictions can change, so always check the current signs and official information before leaving a vehicle.

A Practical Salcombe Base

Kennford works particularly well for two families, an extended family or a group of friends who want to stay together while retaining the freedom to explore Salcombe independently.

It welcomes up to two dogs and offers generous shared space, while its location means guests can enjoy the town without constantly coordinating lifts and parking.

It is also worth knowing that there are steps from the parking space to the front door. Kennford is arranged over three storeys and has a tiered garden, so it may not suit every guest with limited mobility.

In a destination where parking can take some planning, having one private off-road space and a flat walk into town is a genuine advantage.
