The Nook: A Romantic South Devon Cabin Near South Milton Sands

Sometimes you do not need a packed itinerary. You just need somewhere quiet enough to properly switch off.

That is what The Nook is really about.

Tucked away in the countryside near South Milton Sands, it is a private cabin designed entirely for two. There is an outdoor bath, fire pits, an outdoor kitchen and enough peace and space to let the pace of normal life drop away for a while.

It is romantic, but not in an overdone way. More firelight, sea air and slow mornings than rose petals and grand gestures.

A Cabin Made for Staying In

Inside, The Nook feels warm, comfortable and completely separate from the rush outside.

The open-plan living space has soft seating, books, games and a wood-burning stove for slower evenings. The kitchen is properly equipped, so you can cook rather than feeling that you need to go out for every meal.

The king-size bedroom has its own wood burner and seating area, with doors opening directly towards the outdoor bath. There is also a separate dressing room and a bathroom with a large rainfall shower overlooking the private garden.

It works in summer, when much of the day can happen outside, but it is equally lovely when the weather turns and staying beside the fire becomes the plan.

The Outdoor Bath

The outdoor bath is probably the feature people remember first.

It is not a hot tub with jets. It is quieter and more natural than that: a proper bath in the open air, surrounded by the garden with its own fire pit beside it.

You might use it after a walk on the beach, at golden hour or beneath the stars once everything has gone still.

For an anniversary, birthday or simply a weekend when you both need a reset, it gives the stay a sense of occasion without making it feel staged.

Firelight and Outdoor Cooking

The outdoor space is designed to be used, not simply looked at.

There is an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue and fridge, plus another fire pit for evenings outside. You can cook together, sit by the fire and let dinner stretch on without needing to be anywhere else.

At the back of the property, a hot and cold outdoor shower is useful after a sea swim, sandy walk or dog-friendly beach day.

The Nook is surrounded by countryside, so the sounds and atmosphere of nature are part of the stay. It feels private and tucked away, which is exactly why people come.

South Milton Sands About a Mile Away

South Milton Sands is close enough to become part of the rhythm of the break.

You can walk down for a morning by the sea, take a swim when conditions suit, explore the rock pools or follow the coast path for wider views. If you prefer to drive, there is National Trust parking near the beach.

Then you can come back to The Nook, use the outdoor shower and spend the rest of the day by the fire or in the bath.

Hope Cove and Thurlestone are nearby too, while Salcombe and Kingsbridge are within reach when you want shops, restaurants or a little more going on.

Opening hours and seasonal services change, so check before building the day around a particular cafe, restaurant or ferry.

A Dog-Friendly Break for Two

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at The Nook.

The private outdoor space, nearby countryside and coast make it a lovely option for couples who do not want to leave their dog behind. The outdoor shower is particularly useful after muddy paths or sandy paws.

Always check the current beach restrictions before setting out, as dog rules vary around the South Hams and can change seasonally.

Who Does The Nook Suit?

The Nook works particularly well for:

– couples who want privacy and quiet
– anniversaries, birthdays and proposal weekends
– dog owners looking for a coastal break
– guests who enjoy outdoor living
– people who like the idea of cooking, bathing and sitting by the fire
– anyone who needs to disappear for a couple of nights and do very little

It sleeps two in one king-size bedroom, so it is not a family property. The whole experience is shaped around a slower couples’ stay.

A More Thoughtful Kind of Escape

The Nook is powered primarily by solar energy, offering a more sustainable stay without losing the comfort people want from a proper break.

But what makes it special is not a long list of features. It is how those features work together.

Beach in the day. Outdoor bath when you return. Dinner beside the fire. A quiet room and nowhere you need to rush to in the morning.

If that sounds like the sort of South Devon escape you need, you can view The Nook and check availability on the Quay Holiday Lettings website.
